George Clooney's Surprising Family Connection to His 'Monuments Men' Character

"The Monuments Men" is more than just a dramatization of history: It's a family affair for director-star George Clooney.
The story of a group of art historians, teachers, and museum curators going through basic training and donning combat gear to take on the mission of saving priceless works of art from Hitler's blowtorches may seem a little whimsical, but it's based more on real-life events — and real people — than you may realize.

And, in Clooney's case, on his own family tree, as the character he portrays in "The Monuments Men," Frank Stokes, is based on a gentleman named George Leslie Stout... who happens to be the Hollywood star's second cousin, three times removed, as discovered by Ancestry.com.

Wow, great find!

Although I think the writer is over egging the pudding a little bit; a second cousin three times removed hardly counts as 'close family ties'.

and yet it keeps popping up that he is 'related' to Lincoln......anything for a story angle....interesting though.....

Very interesting, with Lincoln they traced the lineage back to his Mother. Did anyone say on which side this was?
