Photos above are from a local house where every single room is decorated in themes, there are also giant santas, giant sleighs set up in their front yard where you can take photos. We visit this house every year and each time they outdo themselves. Photos don't do it justice

@theminis: I love your outside house decoration. How long does it take? Looks like a fairy tale house

@playful: I love your tree. So colorful. Really nice. Mine looks dead compare to yours LOL Take your tree and move in to theminis house. Perfect match LOL

@Melbert: This is like German weather. That's not nice. You better cover that window with a nice sunny, bright picture for few month LOL

Nicky - Hubby says it takes to damn long! but he gets up on the ladder each year and strings all the lights outside. We have a massive hedge out the front so this year Im going to by the netting that has fairy lights in it and wrap it all around the hedge - that's my plan, just need to convince hubby!

nice pics, theminis. I love the smell of a real tree. They also sell pinecones sprayed with cinnamon around the holidays here in southern cali. I always drop a pinecone in the backseat of my car so my car smells nice as well!

Cinnamon is a lovely smell, I buy the cinnamon sticks then wrap them in Christmas bows and scatter them on various tables around the house- smells like Christmas - Pincones are a great idea, might steal some of them from the local park

Post by Carla97 Sat 14 Dec 2013, 18:11

I got mine today, real one, from the farm where they grow these christmas trees. Guy asked me what kind I was looking for and I said I want a tree that smells. That´s the whole point of getting real tree instead of fake/plastic one. They had different kinds of trees so he went around smelling them. I followed him and other customers probably thought he is crazy.

Well I have it now, half way decorated, in a living room and it does smell like forest  Very Happy

Very nice trees!
Magical time of the year.

The Italian link: Like the simplicity of the spiral tree & the decorated fruit candle motifs. The fruit & vegetable trees would make great Christmas lunch presentations.

These sites too have some of the most unusual & impressive trees in the world:

HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS SALT DOUGH DECORATIONS

http://www.parentdish.co.uk/2013/12/20/how-to-make-salt-dough-christmas-decorations/?ncid=wsc-uk-parentdish-image

Making decorations is one of our favourite festive activities in the run-up to Christmas. Salt dough is perfect for making tree decorations and as long as you handle the finished result with care, they should last years.

We've made so many lovely ones in the past and this year thought we'd have a go at handprints too.

For salt dough decorations you will need:

2 cups of plain flour
2 cups of table salt
1-2 cups of water

1. Put the salt and flour into a mixing bowl and gradually add the water. If the texture is too sticky, you just add more flour, until you have a dough ball that is easy to play with and manipulate into shapes without sticking to your fingers.

2. Remove the dough from the bowl, place on a flat surface and knead for five minutes to ensure all the ingredients are well mixed and to also give the dough a softer texture.

3. Leave the dough to stand for half an hour. You can even wrap in cling-film and pop into the fridge to use later.

4. When the dough is ready to be used, Place it on a floured surface and roll out flat. Try not to roll the dough too thin or it will break when dry. A thickness of 1cm is a guide for long lasting decorations.

5. Using cookie cutters, cut out your desired shape and either leave or you can add texture with a fork, stampers or even cut a hole in the centre.

If you want to do handprints - roll a 1cm circle and push hands into the dough. Be careful not to push too far through the dough!

6. Score a hole using a pencil or paintbrush end in the top of your decoration before drying - you'll thread ribbon or string through this later for hanging, so ensure it's a big enough hole to get it through.

7. To dry your decorations will vary according to size and thickness. You can either air dry them or oven dry them, or you can even microwave them!

Air drying: Natural drying is usually 2-3 days.

Oven drying: Set at lowest temperature and dry for 2-3 hours (check regularly.)

Microwave drying: Dry on a low setting in the microwave on a microwavable plate or dish for 2 minutes (depending on the microwave power settings.)

8. Decorate! (Our favourite bit!)

You can paint salt dough with pretty much anything from poster paint to, to glitter glue! for extra shine and to make your decorations last - add a coat of varnish once the paint is dry.

We love making decorations and hope you'll enjoy making them too!

I agree with Joanna very creative ideas. I like the egg carton tree. I would have never thought of something like that.

And the coat hanger tree / window decoration was not only clever, it looked very easy to make.

The open books tree was clever too!

Just goes to show you that there really is no excuse not to have at least one decoration! Thanks for the link.
