According to statistics by the Association of Displaced Persons and Refugees of Darfur, a total of 954 people died and 68 women were raped since the beginning of August throughout Darfur.
Association spokesman Hussein Abu Sharati, said the deaths mostly result from attacks carried out by pro-government militias and diseases.
Out of the 954 deaths, 62 were caused by bullet wounds, 610 were children who died of malnutrition, 192 women died in childbirth, and 90 died of old age, Abu Sharati outlined. A list of names of the victims was handed over to Unamid on Monday, he told Radio Dabanga.
Abu Sharati renewed his calls to humanitarian organisations and Unamid to provide protection for the displaced of Darfur.
In August, the head of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Mark Cutts disclosed that the malnutrition rate in Sudan is higher than the emergency threshold considered by the World Health Organisation.
