Oscar Party Diary: Agencies Celebrate With Stars, Execs Friday
4:55 PM PST 2/23/2013 by THR Staff
WME, UTA and CAA host Ben Affleck, Les Moonves, Anne Hathaway and many more, while Women in Film's female-centered soiree drew Jessica Chastain and Jackie Weaver.
Three of Hollywood’s top agencies hosted star-and-executive-packed parties on Friday night.
Tom Brady and Gisele seemed to draw the most interest at the WME soiree at Ari Emanuel’s house, but the event lured plenty of Oscar nominees as well.
Argo’s Ben Affleck stopped by with wife Jennifer Garner after the Warner Bros. dinner. Les Miserables’ Hugh Jackman brought his wife and a small entourage of family members. The Master’s Joaquin Phoenix (bearded) made a rare public appearance, as did another acting nominee from the movie, Amy Adams. Beasts of the Southern Wild director Benh Zeitlin chatted with WME’s Graham Taylor, who sold the film to Fox Searchlight at 2012’s Sundance Film Festival. Last year’s supporting actress winner Octavia Spencer was there too. Others spotted: a scruffy Taylor Lautner and scruffier Liam Hemsworth (no sign of girlfriend Miley Cyrus), Conan O’Brien, On the Road star Garrett Hedlund, Jack Black, Django Unchained's Jonah Hill, Joel McHale, Emma Watson, Al Michaels, reclusive UK rocker Morrissey; filmmakers Shawn Levy, Justin Lin, Josh Trank and Michael Bay; X-Men writer Simon Kinberg, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Dustin Hoffman, Charlize Theron, Gael Garcia Bernal, Armie Hammer, David Spade and Patrick Stewart. Michael Moore wore his signature baseball cap and Larry David cruised around in tennis shoes.
Most of Hollywood’s top executives also attended. Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos told The Hollywood Reporter his kids got a kick out of seeing photos of him with Snoop from the magazine’s Nominees Night Oscar party. CBS’s Les Moonves and wife Julie Chen stopped by early. Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman made the rounds with Paramount’s Brad Grey and Adam Goodman. Warner Bros.’ Jeff Robinov chatted with Christopher Nolan’s agent Dan Aloni. Sony’s Michael Lynton said hello to talent lawyer Linda Lichter. Lionsgate’s Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger were there, as was Harvey Weinstein, Fox’s Jim Gianopulos, Showtime’s David Nevins and DreamWorks Animation’s Jeffrey Katzenberg.
Over at UTA’s party at Jim Berkus’ house in Beverly Hills, nominated Flight writer John Gatins made the rounds, as did Kon-Tiki directors Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, up for best foreign film. Tons of non-nominees also showed up, including Paul Rudd, Kirsten Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Daniel Radcliffe (who’s rumored to be in the Oscars’ “Be Our Guest” opening number), Die Hard star Jai Courtney, filmmaker Brad Bird, Rashida Jones, Modern Family showrunner Steve Levitan, writer Stephen Gaghan, actress Noomi Rapace and actress/filmmaker Lake Bell.
On the exec side, Sony’s Amy Pascal was there, as were producers Brian Grazer, Jerry Bruckheimer and Lorne Michaels, Warner Bros.’ Kevin Tsujihara, producer/financier David Ellison, Katzenberg, Tom Freston, Moonves, Grey, HBO’s Sue Naegle and Steve Tisch.
CAA moved its annual party from Bryan Lourd’s house to the Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills because Lourd’s home apparently is being renovated. Guests seemed to enjoy the change-up. All the top execs made their way over, as well as a ton of stars.
Les Miserables supporting actress frontrunner Anne Hathaway was there, as was Argo producer George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr. (who’s presenting with his Avengers cohorts at the show), Sandra Bullock, nominated Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio, writer Eric Roth, Silver Linings Playbook best actor and actress nominees Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence, and Star Trek and Star Wars director J.J. Abrams.
Elsewhere, Women in Film threw a party at Fig & Olive restaurant.
WIF President Cathy Schulman hosted with Octavia Spencer, who wore a navy Tadashi Shoji dress. Sponsors were MAC, Perrier Jouet and MaxMara. Among the heavy duty power female crowd were: Supporting actress nominee Jacki Weaver (Silver Linings Playbook), Django Unchained producer Stacey Sher, Kate Walsh, Viola Davis, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Quvenzhane Wallis, Jenna Elfman and multitudes of female agents and producers. Also in attendance were Daniel Radcliffe, David O. Russell and Jared Harris. Due to an accident on Sunset, Jessica Chastain and her new boyfriend, Luca Passi de Preposulo, were late and arrived ten minutes before the end, but they hung out an hour longer with Russell.

OSCARS: Who Went Where This Weekend
By NIKKI FINKE AND MIKE FLEMING JR | Saturday February 23, 2013
An eclectic mix of current and former moguls, executives, producers, directors, and of course actors attended the marquee pre-Oscar parties as well as famed artists, museum directors, fashion designers, music icons, and star athletes. Barry Diller’s luncheon for Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter today was smaller than usual. The agencies dominated Thursday and Friday nights. CAA’s was bigger than in past years when 200-300 guests crowded Bryan Lourd’s home. This time about 500 gathered at Greystone Mansion for Old Hollywood glamour with the men dressed in white dinner jackets and the women in evening gowns and gardenia corsages. WME’s was held at Ari Emanuel’s home as usual and UTA’s at Jim Berkus’ house again. ICM Partners held theirs at the home of agent Hildy Gottlieb. Few of these names need introductions and all are in random order:
CAA Party Friday night: Lorne Michaels, George Clooney, Bill Maher, J.J, Abrams, Vivi Nevo, Les Moonves, Philippe Dauman, Brad Grey, Alexander Payne, Jason Statham, Madonna, Graydon Carter, Jim Gianopulos, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert Downey Jr, Madonna, Gerard Butler, Valentino, Eric Schmidt, Naomi Watts, Anne Hathaway, Robert De Niro, Matt Weiner, Helen Hunt, Chris Pine, Amy Adams, Sandra Bullock, Tommy Lee Jones, Sally Field, Bradley Cooper, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ellen Barkin, Barry Diller, Bob Daly, Harvey Weinstein, Jeff Robinov, Jessica Chastain, Jane Rosenthal, Jerry Bruckheimer, Emma Watts, Tom Rothman, Elizabeth Gabler, Greg Silverman, Kevin Tsujihara, Donna Langley, David O Russell, Harvey Weinstein, Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, Chris Paul, Valentino, Tom Ford, Diane von Furstenberg.
Looks like he only went to the one party . . .

I would assume it serves some purpose. It is quite unkept for his usual style! I love scruffle on a man but this is a little too scruffly. Still dang good looking though!

I don`t like the black/blue combi...i prefer him in black/black His hair could be a little bit shorter...and i find he looks tired. No wonder, first ill and then the flight...poor George. Stacy looks statuesque. And yes, i think too, they look unenthusiastic, not like a pair in love.

He looks like he has taken his grand-daughter out to an event. All the grey in his hair and beard just make him look old. Standing next to her, who looks around her age for once, only makes the picture and age difference more noticable.
Stacy looks good here. Understated and well styled.

Yep, think its about time he added more pepper and less salt, then perhaps he wouldn't look so tired either.

Having looked at all of the other photos I think George looks the smartest of the bunch.
He's obviously got his beard and longer hair for his new film and looks just fine to me.
Is this the first time that he's taken his lady to a pre Oscar party ?
Maybe some experienced Oscar watchers know the answer.

The men (i.e George) who attended CAA Bryan Lourds party wore white dinner jackets.
I have seen George in a white dinner jacket before but for the life of me cannot remember when/where.

I remember Affleck saying that his beard is a good luck thing now, although at home it's not universally liked. Cd be that His Nibs has joined in, or it's part of his role in a retropective way, (he could have started filming his own bits ahead of directing others), or it's kept him warm! (Sure I've thought this before.............)

Just as a side thing, isn't there a huge age gap between Bruce Willis and his wife? - saw a pic of them somewhere yesterday.....

A note on the grey: I think the salt and pepper combo of his hair is very attractive. The beard however, is almost exclusively grey. That is what is probably off-putting to people. And I also agree, even if some don't want to hear it, he looks his age. Still beautiful as ever! Looks like it was a fun event to attend!

ROFL Atlanta - one sentence, good point and oh so funny. IMO that unsightly "crumb catcher" he's wearing hides almost half of his face. To me, no matter how he's wearing a suit or tux his scruffy face takes away from it. Put him in front of a classroom and he reminds me of my college professor.

Cindy also reminds me of a college professor, the great thing about George is that it can seem like a university professor, a great politician and a tomboy according to the situation. I also like with a beard if I do not have to kiss him, the hairs in your mouth annoy me! but I must kiss him and soon as possible!

I love the suit, like the sheen of the shirt George is wearing not the color. Not a huge fan of the beard. I like Stacey's dress but agree about the red lipstick it seems a bit harsh, anyone else think softer lighter brighter make up would look much prettier on her?

Nope he took both Canalis and Larson to this event in the time that they were around. It was at this event G called Larson the "jolly Green Giant". Stacy was at this lat year too. But before that, don't know if he took the likes of Lisa or Krista to this event.

I love him regardless of what he looks like. He could be fat with male pattern baldness, and I would still feel that he is the most beautiful man alive. She is lovely too, and I do believe I am jealous. She is the luckiest woman around, and I hope she finally breaks him of his marriage phobic curse.

I think he just looks wonderful, if I had a choice on not kissing him or kissing him with a prickly beard, I'll take the beard. I like they way it looks, it always amazes me how he can change his appearance by his hair & his beard or lack of. As he ages I will love him no matter how he looks. His beauty comes from with-in, my opinion. That is why I love his eyes so much, there you can see the true George.
