In case anyone was interested, here's an email I received today:

We welcome you to participate in the 2012 Red Carpet Celebrity Style Lounge, honoring Academy Award nominees, celebrities, stylists, press and media and benefiting The Humane Society of The United States. This event will take place on February 22nd in Beverly Hills at lavish L'Ermitage Hotel. This very exclusive event will be attended by nominees, celebrities, stylists and media and is by invite only.

Participate as an in person sponsor at the event or in the VIP gift bags. In person sponsorship allows you to brand and showcase your products and services as well as get pictures of celebrities with your products for marketing, web site and promotional usage. Gift bag only sponsorship is also available if you can not be present. Gift bag sponsors will have their products placed in vip gift bags for nominees, presenters, stylists and media at the event. There are 50 gift bags. You can choose to only gift the nominee bags which are 20. Our past events and gift bags have been covered by US Weekly, OK, In Style, People, Entertainment Tonight, New Beauty, Baby Couture, Access Hollywood and countless others.

Get your products and services in to the hands of celebrities such as Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jeff Bridges, Sophia Vergara, Katy Perry, Kim Kardashian, James Woods, Penelope Cruz and many more!

Please contact us for a sponsorship deck. Only two sponsorship spaces remain

What happens is that you sponsor the event by giving a very nice item away and then hope that the celeb gets photographed with it to get your product both press coverage and a celeb endorsement. Nobody gets paid.

Gift giving at awards Empty Re: Gift giving at awards

Katie, just a question. Don't the celebs have to declare what swag they collect as it is now considered a form of income (or at least declare what they were photographed collecting)? Or is that only at the gifting suites where wares are displayed and collected by celebs if it is to their liking?

Would this not be the case if it relates to a gift bag?

I believe so, yes. I think the US version of the Inland Revenue (can't remember what you call your tax man) wants to take a cut of all goodiebags.

My understanding is that George has said in the past he declines that swag and had some harsh words about the practice. Does anyone else recall this?

Yes I have a recollection of that and of him giving them away
to be auctioned off for charity, sometimes with his signature on.

Thanks Katie.

Fava - I recall him saying something about the gifting suites - how he doesn't need phone with sequins on it.
Quote credited to People when he was sexiest man alive. Quote below
Case in point: He's anti-swag. "I don't need a phone with sequins on it," he says. "It makes actors look bad."

Bravo George. Maybe they could make a huge donation to feed the homeless in honor of the actors who gave up their gift. My bet is if they did that, none of them would accept the lavish gifts for fear of looking greedy. Shocked

When you get your giftbag ready to send, I'll deliver it to George, with me in it!!!

Haha! Somehow I just 'forgot' to reply to that email! I think goodie bags are a complete waste of time so we never donate.

If the companies that put these things together could guarantee that the gift was actually received and used by celebrities I'd give it a go, but none of them can. Often gift items aren't claimed at all (as we all know George doesn't take home his gifts) or they get passed on to friends, family, assistants etc. That's not what I'm looking for when I give expensive stuff away for free.

I do the PR for a number of luxury hotels in Asia. The gift would be a certificate for a free holiday.
