Brilliant PR, George! Three separate charity gigs in one day.
Wonder if he and John Prendergast will talk about The Sentry tonight as some of the money raised is for Not On Our Watch......

hebe wrote that she met him twice, the second time was unexpected by her. And the Daily Mail wrote that he went from the sandwich restaurant (where he left $ 1,000 for homeless people to eat there) to the lottery shop where he received a cheque of £ 175,0000 for Not On Our Watch. And just now the Business Award event starts and some of the money there also goes to one of his organizations. So he's having quite a busy day...

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Thanks for the tip-off that George was having lunch at Tigerlily, PAN, otherwise I'd never have known.
It's in George St as well, all his visits today were very close to one another which made it easier for me. My hotel is just off George St so I didn't have far to go.
George has still having lunch when I arrived at the restaurant. Rebecca, who had won the chance to have lunch with George came out briefly and was asked some questions by waiting reporters. She said that he had been a little late but that had given her a little more time to compose herself as she'd been feeling nervous. She said he had put her at her ease and he'd been having a chat with her and she thought he was lovely. She asked him about his wedding plans as she is a wedding planner and he told her that he had been very involved but by the end of it he'd had enough of wedding planners! Understandable, I think. She went back in to finish her lunch.
A little later Rob Bryden, the actor/comedian came out of the restaurant. He is due to be at tonight's Business Awards ceremony along with George. Chris Evans the DJ/presenter then arrived but it seems he was there for different reasons.
When George was leaving the restaurant he was again very friendly toward the waiting crowd and spoke to some people and shook more hands. As he went in the car (a shiny red Jaguar) he called 'Keep warm guys'.
Rebecca came out and was set upon by reporters who asked all about her lunch with George. Apparently they had eaten Carpaccio for starters, seafood for main course and a chocolate and raspberry dessert. There was a cheese course after that she said.
She went on to say that she'd had a wonderful time and that George was brilliant and so charming. She added that everyone at lunch seemed to have been captivated by him. She had expected that George would be great to have lunch with but he had far exceeded her wildest expectations. It was an experience she'd always remember and it would top any bucket list she could imagine. She said that she could have bought a great lunch at the restaurant and a stay at the hotel but her time with George couldn't be bought and she felt incredibly lucky to have won the opportunity to have lunch with him.
She added that they'd talked about politics and about American football which she is also interested in as she was born in the US. She was asked if she asked him about having children but she said that she hadn't. Very wise I think.
I was too late to go to Social Bite after that so went to the Dome for afternoon tea instead. It's also in George St. It was absolutely lovely inside, crystal chandeliers and elegant furnishings. It looks magical all decorated and twinkling for the festive season. I had the afternoon tea without the champagne as I felt I was intoxicated enough from seeing George three times in one day! (We must be practically going steady now! Don't tell Amal, please, she might be the jealous type!)
It's all been a bit too much excitement for me so I'm going to lie down in a darkened room for a wee while to recover. The weather has worsened, it's windy and rainy now but I'll take George's advice and stay warm. Don't think I'll be going out again tonight but I'm happy and I'll dream of lovely George tonight I'm sure.
Your roving (or should that be raving?) reporter live from Edinburgh signing off for now.

Gale force winds PAN? I hope he won't fly back in that. Very worrisome. Especially in a private plane. No no no.
I'm sure Hebe would offer to share her room with George.
How long is a flight from Edinburgh to London BTW?

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Certainly George can share my room if he can't get back home tonight. I'd keep him warm and he can even have some of my Arran Aromatics body soak that I bought today. It smells divine.
Have seen lots of reports of George's visit on both the Scottish and National news bulletins so the charities are getting quite a bit of publicity. Well done George, you've had a busy day. I think he has impressed lots of people here with his friendly and caring manner.

your offer shows that you're really an altruistic person!
I once saw an interview with George where he said that you're only giving a short time in spotlight as a celebrity and that you should use your fame to shine a light on certain issues. And he really did this today! I just googled his name and checked youtube and there are reports and videos in every language! So everybody now knows about this sandwich cafe, and maybe this inspires people in other cities to do this as well, who knows?
Hebe, just a very personal note: So I guess that you live in Scotland or in the north of England, right? My father went to Edinburgh once and was really impressed by this beautiful city! I've always wanted to go there as well, and when I saw all the pictures and videos today, it just came back to my mind...

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Yes, Carolhathaway I'm an altruistic person as far as George is concerned, lol.
I think George really is a good guy and frequently uses his fame to help others in lots of ways. He tries his best to make a difference both on issues that are on a large scale and those other issues on perhaps, a smaller scale, but which he feels are important and can benefit from his involvement.
There are so many famous or wealthy people out there who just seem to think about themselves and don't use their positions to help others when they could do so much just by giving a little of their time. I'm glad George is not like that. Then he credits his upbringing for encouraging him to care for others. That makes a difference. He values his family.
Yes, I live in the north east of Scotland. My first job was in Edinburgh and I love the city and think it is beautiful and there is lots to see and do here. I lived here for about 5 years and it's good to be back for a visit. I worked in the School for blind children here and it was a lovely job.

Yes, Pan, I've had a great time and am glad I was able to come. I arrived on Monday and return to Aberdeen on Saturday so I've got some time to come back down to earth before I go back. I'm planning to visit a craft shop tomorrow and am hoping that I can stop myself from buying half the stock in the shop. I like making cards etc.
That is a lovely interview from the BBC. Rebecca certainly seemed to get a lot from her lunch with George. He made it very special for her, lucky woman.
I've been lucky too, managing to see George in the flesh and shake his hand. Thanks, George.

The Printing Press is just across the street from the Dome where I had afternoon tea. Can I deduce that if he was out to dinner after the awards tonight that he had planned to stay in Edinburgh overnight all along? Well, he hasn't turned up here yet so I assume he's found somewhere else to rest has weary head. Night Night George. Sweet dreams.

Thanks for that link and the video in there.
I like to listen from him that he also gets nervous, he seems always calm and cool, but we are all humans. And you can tell sometimes when he is nervous buy he knows how to hide it. That´s the years of being in the business.
I wish more people, not only the fans, could see this kind of things of him. Because there are a lot of people that see him like a star, if you know what I mean, not as an another human being. He is big, yes, but is humble and human, it´s his job and he knows separate his life and his work.

Thanks for the videos, PAN and hathaross!
I really liked the video in the dailyrecord article, that was very interesting!
I like it when George is talking about serious issues and he always has a lot to say. The youtube videos were nice as well. I could never do that. If I sould stand in front of a shouting and screaming bunch of people I would turn round and try to hide as fast as possible. But he handles it really well, and he always gives everybody the feeling that he's enjoying their company.

Yes, thanks to everyone who posted pics and videos yesterday and today. Really enjoyed seeing George take on Edinburgh. With such style and grace.
And very special thanks ... again .... to Hebe, our on the ground roving and raving reporter. Who, I hope, has sufficiently recovered from her fantastic, out of body experience yesterday.
I don't follow anyone in the "business" like I do George. It's for good reasons. Many of them mentioned here. To see someone as celebratory as George embody charm, style, humbleness, smarts, talent, good looks, humanity and likability is hard to ignore. He is unique in my book.

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Thanks for those links and videos, they're great. The papers here all have George on the front page which isn't surprising.
I slept very well last night thank you, it was easy to drift off to sleep with happy memories of the day. I thought I'd round off my George experience by treating myself to lunch at Tigerlily where George and co had lunch yesterday. It is lovely inside with a number of rooms styled differently, bright and and modern. The food was good and prices were quite reasonable. They have a '2 main meals for £10 deal which seemed popular. It was quite busy and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Next to me was a large table of men and women. Some of them had shaken hands with George yesterday and they were all chatting about him. They spoke about how friendly he'd been and were pleased that he'd come to Edinburgh and supported Social Bite. One of the men said that though George was known for being popular with women he thought that he was also a guy's guy and that he seemed like he would be good company. He added that his films appealed to men as well as women and he admired George for making and directing his own films as well and thought he did a pretty good job and made some very worthwhile films. The others at the table seemed in agreement with him.
My food and coffee were finished so I thought I'd better leave before they realised I was being nosy and listening in on their conversation.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like you're having a great time.

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
PAN,
I'm sure the other guests at the lunch restaurant were excited that they were able to go over to him, take pictures and try to have a word with him. I'm not sure that George felt the same...
That's something I would definetely hate if I were him. He'd already been to two meetings and was having lunch with 25 people he didn't know but who expected to be 'entertained' by him. And then others came around, tried to take pictures of him and wanted to have a chat as well. That must have been a relaxing date for him...

Well, if you're going to be held up at the airport who better to spend your time with than George. Lucky woman to be able to spend time with him and Rob.
Re the other diners at Tigerlily, I think it was bad mannered of them to intrude on George's party of diners, taking pictures and going over to him for a chat. I'm sure George coped with that but he shouldn't have had to. They should have left George and co to have their meal in peace. (It was naughty enough of me to listen to other people's conversation. In my defence, they were speaking rather loudly. Honest M'lud)

The restaurant should have made sure that George and his party were not disturbed. People will be people and don't tend to use common sense when it comes to a celebrity.
They could have had a waiter or the manager politely keep people away from them.

Hebe,
I'm sure they spoke quite loud so you could hear what they said sitting at the next table so nobody can blame you for listening to their conversation. You surely didn't sit unter their table to listen to them *lol*.
But you really had some terrific days in Edinburgh, it was really worth the trip. Congrats!

From the article it doesn't read that the customers were that intrusive. I'm sure George is used it it. And aware that people want a chance to meet him. How often does he go to Edinburgh? I'm sure this is not as much of an issue in NY, LA and London.
It's interesting that the article focused on the restaurant's decision not to close for lunch. But I've not read in the past that restaurants will close when George goes for lunch or dinner. I know when he's been In Washington DC and goes out for a meal with people the restaurants don't close to give his party privacy. And when George does eat out he makes it a point to sit where all the other diners sit .... most of the time. Not in a private room.

Donnamarie,
I do hope that the other guests weren't that intrusive. I suggested that they were but you're right it doesn't say that in the article.
What would you do if you saw a celebrity? Especially if it's one you really admire? I once saw an quite famous German actor at the airport and just noticed how small he was, how tired he looked and that he seemed to wear make up. I just told my husband about him and we went away.
My godchild was very excited because during their summer vacation she saw one of our most popular football (for the Americans: soccer) coaches, and she went over to him and asked for a selfie. He wasn't excited about that but agreed and that caught the attention of quite a few others. He ended up being photographed and and giving autographs for about half an hour. Later my godchild told it to the waitress in the cafe they went to and she said that this happens every time he goes out in public.
So we had a little talk about celebrities and if they've got the right of privacy or not. I absolutely think so, for me it's a big difference if a celebrity is doing his job ( like George did in Edinburgh) or if he's there with friends or family. But we'd talked about it here and have different opinions so I'll leave if up to the hope that George was able to at least relax a bit and have a bite to eat (well, he'd had a wrap before...).

Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Just had a thought - given the number of people in that restaurant we haven't seen any evidence from inside have we?
He was in a party of twenty five wasn't he? Not sure I'd be happy to penetrate that but there's no telling what people are like in that situation. Know I wouldn't want to interrupt the meal tho. If it were me I wouldn't want that, but I guess it comes with the territory. No wonder he sometimes wants a table somewhere at the back of the restaurant.

I remember when he was dating Sarah and they were having dinner with Cindy and Rande in New York, a man walked up and tried to talk to George the waiter led the man away. I think it happens depending on what restaurant he is in.
I think he is used to it but it still must be annoying all the same.
