Re: George Clooney is heading to Edinburgh to back sandwich charity for the homeless Social Bite
Yes, Donnamarie, I have come back down to earth with having to get back in to my normal routine but I have lots of good memories of seeing George. He came across as a really nice, down to earth (and very handsome) guy. I think it is greatly to his credit that he seems to enjoy communicating with the people who do the work and not just the bosses or people at the top. I think he is a very good and natural communicator. He also came across as someone with a sense of fun.
I was very lucky. I was just hoping to get a glimpse of George and was lucky enough to see him three times and get a handshake too. I think that everybody who saw him was quite charmed by him. It was fortunate for me that that the places he went to were in or very close to George Street and was just round the corner from my hotel.

Your thoughts of George just confirms how I've always seen him. He is who he is. The real deal. No facade.

George panicked....and Faith missed the opportunity to hold his hand...lay her arm around his shoulder ...whisper quietly in his ear that she was there, always...Give him courage and explain that she had Angel Wings, just nobody could see them... These wings would carry him where ever he wanted to go, no target too high. That they would fold around him, and protect invisibly, with the strength of cast iron....at night the feathered wings would create the softest pillow for him to sleep the perfect sleep and dream the most impossibly fantastic dreams.....No fear....would ever furrow his brow again....because I am here....

George Clooney was given a warm welcome as he arrived in Edinburgh to lend his support to a sandwich shop that helps homeless people.
A large crowd gathered in Rose Street in the Scottish capital and cheered as the Hollywood star stepped out of his car this morning.

Clooney, 54, was visiting staff at the Social Bite which employs former homeless people and passes on profits to charity.

Before entering the cafe he stopped to pose for pictures and chat to fans who had waited for hours and described the social enterprise as "fantastic".
He told a media scrum outside the cafe: “It’s pretty amazing, and I’m looking forward to seeing it, I haven’t seen it up close yet. I like what they’re doing, I think it’s a very important cause. I think the idea that we can all participate in everyone’s difficulties is really important.”

The movie star described Edinburgh as beautiful and said he felt bad for the crowd who had been waiting for him “out in the cold”. He said he didn’t know which kind of sandwich he would try in Social Bite, but promised to buy a loyalty card.

During his visit, Clooney donated £1,000 to the cafe.
Last month, Social Bite launched what is thought to be the first "selfless" loyalty card which lets customers help feed the homeless. It works by saving up loyalty points to buy a homeless person a free meal and hot drink after 10 visits to the cafe.
A quarter of its workforce in the five Social Bite shops across Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen is formerly homeless.

Josh Littlejohn, founder of Social Bite and the Scottish Business Awards, said: "It was an incredible occasion and there were a crazy amount of people outside lining the road.
"George came in and spent time with the staff - it was amazing to have him in Social Bite.
"He was mobbed by the staff and we made him a platter of sandwiches so he tucked into that and had some cake too."
When asked how Josh had connected with the actor, he said: "I reached out to his charity Not On Our Watch and we offered to fundraise for it through our Business Awards event tonight and then we asked him to pop by the café too.
"For the staff, it’s a massive experience. Just a few years ago they were begging on the streets and now they are here.
"I've always felt homeless people have been dealt an incredibly bad hand so for George Clooney to raise awareness for us is a big deal."
Social Bite staff member Sonny Murray, who met Mr Clooney, said: “Only two years ago I was living on the streets of Edinburgh with a heroin addiction and unable to even afford to eat. Today I’m in full-time employment, have an amazing family and I just made lunch for one of the biggest stars on the planet.
“George genuinely seems like a great guy and it was a really special moment when he came into Social Bite to see what it is all about."

Later this afternoon, Clooney met wedding planner Heather McGowan who won a charity competition to have a private lunch at Tiger Lily boutique hotel with the star.
She said: “I arrived about 15 minutes before George which was good because I neede a bit of time to compose myself.

“During lunch I asked him about his wedding to Amal last year and whether he had been involved in the planning of it.
“He said he had had a lot of involvement in it, which was nice to hear, and that he had been quite hands on.

Later today, Clooney will speak at the Scottish Business Awards at the city’s international conference centre in front of a sold-out, 2,000-strong audience.
All proceeds from the business awards event, hosted by comedian Rob Brydon, will go towards a range of charities including the Social Bite Fund and Not on Our Watch, co-founded by Clooney with fellow actors Matt Damon, Brad Pitt and others.
Mr Clooney was last known to be in Scotland in 2005 when he presented Live 8 Edinburgh.
