Will the real George stand up?
Calling on all Clooney fans, whether newbies or die hard old reprobates, what do you think George is really like? Do you think we're getting to see 'the real man' or just a varnished, PR-enhanced version?

I think we've seen a lot of the real George for years, but after and around the SL years there has been some changes. It's become more about his image and PR. Fans began to dislike some of his lifestyle choices, and many thought he was getting to old to behave like a frat boy.Not that it's anyones business how he lives his life, but it's selling himself to the public that is his business!

I agree with Lucy. I think he's having a mid-life crisis, and maybe with the back pain, he's having to work a little harder to keep up with his own image. But it's not like there are any stories circulating (from crew members or random lapdancers) saying that he's a total a**hole in real life. That must count for something. Stan isn't a MAGICIAN, after all.

Re: Will the real George stand up?
I think that George is quite the showman. When he is "on", he is "on". The silly interviews, etc. are all him, but I think that in private and on the serious issues, he is very down to earth and very absorbed in his work. I think that when he's around the boys, BBQ, basketball, riding his bike, he's giving and fun-loving. But, when it comes to work, his ethics are above standard. I think that we all agree that his choice in women, his refusing to do PR for his films, all make him appear to be an ass and self-absorbed, but when it comes to his work, well it's just a complete about face. Maybe he thinks that if he works so hard, he can relax being an ass. JMHO

Re: Will the real George stand up?
Is he really refusing to do PR for movies? He definitely didn't do any for "The American," but that could be because he knew he was going to be hollering about Darfur in anticipation of January's referendum. He was everywhere for that: Bill Maher, Today Show, and of course Dateline. Didn't he even show up on Stephanopolous?
If he had just been promoting a movie as well, that would have been Clooney overload (if there can be such a thing!). Priorities, priorities...

PigLove, George stated a while back that he wasn't going to do anymore interviews for his films. We know that he still walked a few carpets, with her there, but no Extra, ET, E!, Access Hollywood, all things he's done in the past. Oh, I think there were a couple little sound bites from a few of them, but no indepth interviews. I just really miss those interviews!

Re: Will the real George stand up?
He hasn't done any PR for his last couple of movies. Except show up with a girl on his arm. I miss the interviews they were usually entertaining though towards the end got so repetative I could mime what he was going to say. But it has been a couple of years so he should have some new material and I do miss his appearances on Leno and Letterman. I think George can be sweet and charming and all godd things but he can also be an ass. Like everyone he has a good and a bad side. He isn't perfect just look at his choice in women. He also has a temper something else others have spoken about but then he is pretty Irish!

I always felt that one should "read between the lines" when he gives his off-the-cuff remarks. I think he's really telling the truth about how he feels (especially look at his eyes). Maybe not always, but more times than not.melbert wrote:I think that George is quite the showman. When he is "on", he is "on". The silly interviews, etc. are all him,

Re: Will the real George stand up?
Does anyone think that the reason he stopped giving interviews was because of self-preservation? What I mean is that he gave out a lot of information in the old interviews (which is why they're such compelling reading now) and it's largely from those interviews that we can get a sense of who George Clooney really is (or was, I guess, seeing as it's been a while and people do change over time).
Perhaps he's just not comfortable with complete strangers (which we are) knowing so much about him and has decided to pull back?
Does anyone have the actual quote where he said he wasn't going to do any more publicity?

Give me time to find it, I posted it some time last year or early this year elsewhere. Actually, I think it was Stan who was quoted.
