Lakin, how many cold showers have you taken? I'd personally like to do extensive research. What's not to love about Christian Grey. he's always ready, isn't he?

Oh my, the water bill will be higher this month!! Plus I have had to get new batteries TWICE! (LOLOL! can I say that here )
Have you read the rest of the trilogy, pattigirl? I'm thoroughly 'tied up' in the love story being halfway through 50 Shades Darker.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
not to change the subject... but HBO has a free preview weekend and I'm watching of all things, Phantom of the Opera with Gerard Butler.
What happened to him? He was so gorgeous? In the last couple of years too many times he's just been bloated and paunchy!

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
I've never seen what everyone else sees in Gerard Butler, so can't help you there!
Also I think I'm the only one in the universe who thought 50 Shades of Grey was absolute mind-numbing rubbish. Boring romance novel drivel at it's very worst. The funniest thing about it (and there were lots of unintentionally funny bits) is that it's supposed to be a story about a dom training his sub. Except the sub, as it states in the book, isn't in the least bit submissive, and oddly, the dom is perfectly happy not to be dominant. It's like reading a story about race car drivers only to find that one doesn't have a driving licence and the other is happy to ride a bicycle. Sorry.
I do want to thank whoever it was who recommended The Hunger Games though. I wouldn't ever have bothered going to see it at the cinema but because of the recommendations here I did, and I'm so glad I did. Had to buy all of the books now.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
I read the version of 50 Shades from the link that Pattygirl sent (finally got the link to work). I'm with you Katie. I thought it was awful ill be the first one to admit that I love a good trashy novel but this one didn't live up to the hype. It was poorly written and dare I say not trashy enough for me. there wasn't enoug sex for me. It was mostly them working out their issues. I don't care about their issues, I have my own. Bring on the smut!
In other news, I got the job!
It's for a restaurant management company. Everyone so far is nice and just a bit crazy so I think I'll fit right in. LOL! The best part is that the benefits are amazing; great hours, gas allowance, bonuses, trips, etc. Sa-weet!

MGK, Congrats on the new job. Sounds like a winner.
Now, please tell me just what you've read that is smuttier than 50 Shades. I know you read internet version, which stops way short. I know I've been out of touch with "general" reading. My genre is science fiction-fantasy, you know dragons, magic, elves, etc. and there isn't much descriptive sex in those (a few exceptions but non as descriptive as 50). I thought they were pretty hot so clue me in, please.

Yay MGK!!!! Congrats on the new job!!!
As for 50 Shades, I'm not claiming it's a literary masterpiece. The author herself says she didn't write well. It's just a fun, hot summer read. When something grabs the collective consciousness, it piques my interest. I wanted to know what all the hype was about and I've enjoyed it. To each their own, eh?

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
To each their own, definitely.
Pattygirl: just about anything by Jackie Collins or even Jilly Cooper is smuttier than 50 Shades of Grey.
I read the book, not the internet version and if you liked Grey, you'll like anything published in the past 10 years by Mills & Boon (the UK's biggest romance novel publisher). If you want something a little more overt, try their 'naughty' publishing line which I think is called Black Lace.
I don't know the US versions of this publisher but I'm sure you have the same.
Amazon for Kindle has a huge erotic fiction section (or at least amazon.co.uk does so I'm sure amazon.com does too) if you want to dip a toe into smuttier waters. But beware: a lot of it really is full on.
On the other hand, nothing wrong with elves and orcs. I've done my best to read almost all the books by Robin Hobbs this past year.

I mean, 50 was ok. I just dont get the hype. I didn't think it was that erotic. The storyline is good and I liked seeing where it was going but I didn't need a cold shower or anything. We have a Books a Million store here in town and they have oodles of erotic fiction in the clearance section that are way more smutty than 50. So I've heard... lol

Katiedot - or anyone here -- I'm thinking of getting an e-reader.
Does anyone have any comments on Kindle Fire vs Nook?
I've held a Fire and thought it was bit heavy.
Or should I just go all hog and get an iPad?

Lorna, I vote for the iPad. Im not a big fan of apple products as the be all and end all of gadgets but I hardly use my laptop since we've had ours. The only time I use my laptop is for Photoshop and things like that. Otherwise, the iPad is with me all the time.

I have the Color Nook, which I think weighs about the same as Kindle. While it does other things, I only use it for reading. My daughter has the Kindle Fire, which does a lot more that the Nook. Nook also has a new tablet which I believe is the same as the Fire. The ipad can be be used with a Nook app and an Amazon app.
Guess it just depends on what you may wish to spend.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
MGK and pattygirl, thanks for the info.
There is a B&N near my work and right down the street an Apple store so I think I'll stop by both this week and check both out.
I have to make some sort of decision soon! The last few books I've read have been hardback and those books get heavy! I also tend to read several books at the same time (not at the same sitting though) so it would be nice to load a oouple of books on an e-reader and be able to switch back and forth.
But the iPad intrigues me as it has more functionality that I might find useful. I just don't know if doing things like writing emails, posting etc. are that easy using the touchpad keyboard. I'm so used to an actual typewriter sized/type keyboard on my laptop that I don't know if the touch screen type would drive me crazy or not.
Best to check it out before I decide...

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Good idea to check them out. I have an iPad and really like it. I have vision issues and find reading books on it easier than reading an actual book. I didn't get the new iPad. Decided to save $100 and got the original iPad2. It is way more costly than a lot of the readers but since I just have an ordinary cell phone I use this for all other functions. I don't find the touchpad keyboard difficult. It is much friendlier than any of the smart phones people use for texting. I'm really a novice on all things tech so it's just IMO.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Thanks bluebelle. Will definitely check them out! I also have just an ordinary phone - can't seem to justify getting a smartphone when I only call one or two family members. But it would be nice to check my email during the day. Right now I only do it at night cause my company blocks access to email accounts from Yahoo and Google so can't access from work. And I really hate taking my laptop in to work as it's just another thing to carry so maybe an iPad might solve that issue.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
It depends on what you want to use it for. I've got a basic Kindle because all I wanted to do was read. Didn't need any whistles and bells. It's light, the battery will last for about 10 days (yes, I do mean days, not hours) at least and because it's not backlit, you can read it for long periods without eye strain, just like a regular book.
That said, if you need more gizmos on your gadget then an iPad is probably the best bet. Just remember that it's bigger, heavier, needs charging after a couple of hours and you'll be looking into a light source like a computer screen when you read from it.
That may be an acceptable compromise for you given all the other stuff that it can do.
There's someone on here (sorry, can't remember who) who had a whole list of reasons why not to get a Kindle so maybe she'll post with good advice too.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
Lol at the original Kindle.
Lorna, the email with the virtual keyboard on the iPad took some getting used to but it's pretty easy. It was easier to get used to that the Swype typing on my phone. We have the original one, without a camera. Haven't missed not having a camera on it because I usually carry my cellphone and use it for quick snapshots. I don't know anything about the Kindle so I can't give you any advice on it. I say go pay with both and see which he seems more intuitive for you.

Re Kindle...I'm very happy with mine, the one with keyboard.
It's useful if you need larger than average print.
I've also got a leather case for mine that has a "stand" arrangement incorporated in it, which means I can rest it on my lap and not have to hold it all the time.

Re: JUNE CHIT CHAT
playful and other friends...good to be back online after a week without wifi
Had a lovely time in Cornwall, mainly a catch up time with my Cornish Cousins and to see the sea in all it's moods, which I did. One lovely sunny day followed by cloudy sunny mornings and Cornish rain later, then a couple of really wet and windy days.
The wind was Easterly which meant big waves crashing in all around Falmouth Bay at high tide, which is a lovely sight.
I took my Cousins for a Cornish Cream tea at The Cove, link below, and we had a lovely specially prepared one just for us, as they don't have them on their menu.
Can thoroughly recommend the restaurant if any of you are in the area ! Big plus was that our Westie Girl was welcome too in the outer terrace and covered terrace area, so we'll certainly go there again next time we visit.
Food wise....a good Sunday roast dinner at a country pub and a few homely meals with Cousins and of course, a Cornish Pasty lunch !
http://www.thecovemaenporth.co.uk/about-us/......is in a great position at the back of a local beach with a lovely sea view.
Comfy outdoor sofas and excellent friendly service.
